Who We Are

Building skills for independence.

Heavenly Home Independent Living is committed to helping young adults develop the skills and confidence necessary to navigate the transition from supported living to greater independence.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

A structured path toward independence.

We believe independence is not something that happens overnight. It is developed through practice, guidance, accountability, opportunity, and support.

Our program provides a structured environment where residents can learn, make progress, take responsibility, and prepare for adulthood.

Our Approach

Supportive. Individualized. Whole-person.

HHIL uses a supportive, individualized approach that recognizes every young adult has different experiences, strengths, goals, and support needs.

We focus on:

1Individual strengths and abilities
2Personal goals
3Independent-living skills
4Education and employment
5Financial responsibility
6Health and wellness
7Communication and decision-making
8Community involvement
9Long-term transition planning

Our Commitment

Dignity. Respect. Compassion. Accountability.

We are committed to creating an environment where young adults are treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and accountability.

Our goal is not simply to provide a place to live.

Our goal is to help residents learn how to live independently.

Our Vision

Stable and productive futures.

To help young adults transition into adulthood with the knowledge, confidence, skills, and support needed to build stable and productive futures.

Carol Newton-Smith, Founder and Executive Director of Heavenly Home Independent Living

Carol Newton-Smith is a faith-driven entrepreneur and organizational leader whose work has centered around developing programs, businesses, and systems that serve individuals, families, and communities.

Before entering full-time entrepreneurship, Carol dedicated approximately 14 years to the Kemper County School District, from 2006 to 2020. Her experience in education strengthened her understanding of structure, accountability, consistency, leadership, and the importance of helping people recognize their potential.

Following her career in education, Carol expanded her work into healthcare, workforce education, housing, real estate, transportation, and community development.

Her experience has allowed her to develop practical knowledge in organizational leadership, program development, staffing, employee training, policy development, compliance, healthcare services, education, housing, and community partnerships.

A Builder With a Purpose

Carol describes herself as a builder.

Not simply a builder of businesses, but a builder of systems, opportunities, organizations, and pathways for people to move forward.

Her leadership journey has included seasons of tremendous growth as well as difficult personal and professional transitions.

Those experiences taught her the importance of resilience, preparation, structure, faith, and continuing to move forward even when circumstances change unexpectedly.

Rather than allowing difficult seasons to stop her, Carol continued building.

That same philosophy is reflected in Heavenly Home Independent Living.

She believes a young person's present circumstances do not have to determine the rest of their life.

With appropriate support, accountability, opportunity, practical skills, and determination, young adults can establish new goals and build a different future.

Experience That Supports the HHIL Mission

Leadership across service areas.

Carol's leadership extends across several service areas that directly complement the mission of Heavenly Home Independent Living.

Healthcare & Community-Based Services

Through Heavenly Hands Services, LLC, Carol has experience developing and managing services designed to help individuals remain supported within their homes and communities.

This experience has strengthened her knowledge of staffing, supervision, service delivery, documentation, training, compliance, and person-centered support.

Education & Workforce Development

Through Heavenly Hands Healthcare Academy, Carol expanded her commitment to education by creating opportunities for individuals to obtain healthcare training and develop skills that can lead to employment and economic stability.

Education and workforce development are also central components of HHIL's approach to preparing young adults for independence.

Housing & Real Estate

Through Heavenly Home Investment Services, Carol has expanded into housing and real-estate development.

This experience supports a broader understanding of one of the most important components of independence: obtaining, maintaining, and responsibly managing stable housing.

Independent Living

Heavenly Home Independent Living brings these experiences together.

Education. Employment. Housing. Healthcare. Life Skills. Structure. Accountability.

Each area contributes to HHIL's ultimate goal—preparing young adults to successfully manage their lives beyond the program.

Faith, Purpose & Service

Leadership grounded in faith.

Carol's Christian faith is central to her personal leadership.

Her journey as an entrepreneur has required faith, obedience, perseverance, discipline, and a commitment to continue serving even through difficult seasons.

Those experiences have shaped the values she brings to leadership:

Compassion. Integrity. Excellence. Accountability. Service. Dignity. Perseverance.

HHIL serves young adults professionally and respectfully regardless of their individual backgrounds or beliefs. Carol's personal faith guides her commitment to lead with integrity, compassion, excellence, and a genuine desire to see others succeed.

For Carol, leadership is not simply about holding a position.

Leadership is accepting responsibility for what has been placed in your hands and using it to create opportunities for others.
